30+ sewing patterns

I’m purging the sewing patterns now. I REALLY want to hold onto the vintage one’s, but I honestly have no need for them. They are so pretty to look at though…..

Using what you have

This is a tutorial of sorts. You won’t find any “patterns” per say, but you can get the basic gist of things.
You start with some scrap yarn, a crochet hook, sz 6 dpn’s, a zipper, a tapestry needle, and a plastic lid.

I used the outer ring (2nd piece). I basically knit a mini scarf, and sewed it up around the plastic ring. I then made flowers from the zipper.

Next, I used white cotton yarn and crocheted a basic circle. I then used the tapestry needle to sew it onto the plastic circle. Viola! A coaster!

Lastly, I made a towel hanger from the third piece. I crocheted around the ring until it was covered. I then joined the ends with a slip stitch. I then made a “tab” for the button hole and button. The button was made by making a crocheted “bead”.

Creating a craft room

Goodness knows there are lots of sites that’ll tell you how to set-up your craft room. This isn’t one of those sites. I am want to share those tips and ideas that I like…that appeal to my sensabilities. Enjoy!

1. My first stop is The Domestic Diva’s Disasters (aka Lisa) blog. On the right-hand side of her blog, you will find Sewing Room Organization Challenge. Having done this before, I know it works.

I am a visual person. I probably miss a lot of good stuff by skipping over articles and blogs that don’t use photos, but photos give the viewer a great idea of how things are supposed to look.

2. LilMissCupcake uses glass jars for storage. I save glass jars and lids.

3. This is an excellent idea for storage small items too.

4. Jenny B Allsorts has a craft room to envy. I can’t pick just one thing I like about it. The colors just “grab” me.

5. The Palm Tree Princess has this gorgeous space. The lanterns just make it for me.

6. Get Your Craft On has some awesome ideas for decorating and storage. I’m totally digging the ceiling fan redo.

7. Dottie Angel has a mossy shed that is chock-full of little lovlies.

8. I know this isn’t a craft room, but to someone living in one, it is. I just LOVE how Happy Loves Rosie has decorated these.

9. Crafty Storage has LOTS of tips and ideas. Not to mention…PHOTOS! They get an A+ in my book.

10. Heather Bailey has a gorgeous, organized studio. I particularly like her fabric storage.

Time to mix it up

Got myself a new model. My DD14 just doesn’t want to do it. Glad my son’s girlfriend was willing to help me out. At any rate, here are the pics I took tonight. Now, I really wish my son had brought her over during daylight hours so I could get good outdoor lighting pics, but these aren’t too bad.

Tribute to Afghans

I finally completed this throw afghan for the sofa. When last I photographed it, I was working on the outer band.

The second photo is of the new afghan with it’s sibling afghans on the back of my sofa:

And the third photo is of an afghan I DID NOT make. I was lucky enough to snag it at the local thrift. It’s a huge sofa afghan, with no holes or unraveling spots. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the creator didn’t weave the ends in properly, so now we have little “fingers” of yarn sticking out here and there. Someday, I get to that.

As for what’s on my hooks and needles:
– Knit ladies’ medium cardigan in variegated wool
– My oldest son’s afghan, which I’m re-doing (haven’t made much progress with that)
– Sunkissed Kimono for babies (this one is being crocheted from scraps of blue yarn)

OH, and I just finished a scrap blue yarn shrug for my youngest son’s girlfriend, Kayla. Of course a picture is forthcoming.
